Fly Tieing

Hey your fly tieing is getting pretty good. That last one looked good enough to eat. If I were a trout, or a dolly Varden or something like that. Keep up the good work.

I hate to say it, but Brit Hume is right!!!

Brit Hume is right!! It pains me, a bit, to say that about the pompous windbag--but he has done nothing wrong. While America's famous media "Offence industry" has cranked up the heat on ol' Hume for having the temerity to offer some advice on Tiger Wood's religious options with respect to his current difficulties with his wife, his mistresses, his sponsors and, most importantly the content of his character, Hume played the scenario correctly. It was Woods, in the past, who opened the can of worms that he is a Buddhist. It was Woods who put it out there, what can't Hume comment on it??

O.K., then 'Fair Game Hume' makes the comment that Buddhism does not offer the type of forgiveness, and redemption, Woods is likely seeking for his failings. It is not presumptuous for Hume to assume the type of forgiveness, and redemption, Woods would be seeking would be TOTAL, forgiveness. Do you think only partial forgiveness, at this point, would satisfy anyone??

According to Buddhist theology, Hume is right. Buddhism only offers Woods the chance to do unrelated good works to pile up enough good Karma, over innumerable lifetimes, to balance the whole business neutral. Not what Tiger is seeking--as well as being a monumental example of too little too late.

Neither would Islam offer Woods any type of forgiveness; because, for a Moslem, it was the women's fault he was drawn into this problem in the first place. There need be no forgiveness, according to Islam, because it was the bevy of Mistress/Whores with their wanton looks, half naked bodies, and the lack of supervisory control of a husband, that made him do it. It was their fault, not his!!! Don't believe me??? Try reading a few chapters of the classic 1001 Arabian Nights, to get a feel for how Moslems react to this type of treachery!!

But Christianity, on the other hand, does offer Woods complete forgiveness, and restoration; but only after he confronts his own failings in the betrayal of his wife, family, business associates and others. And also works through the presumptuous ill-treatment of all his mistresses as mere sex objects, and subhuman beings. Then he is going to have to change his behaviour, minute by minute, day by day for the purposes of keeping such atrocities from recurring. This will be an exacting, relentless and grinding process.

In the Tolkein Classic Lord of the Rings, Frodo Baggins, above all the characters knew the ring must be destroyed; not ignored, not co-opted, not hidden away, not minimized. It must be rooted out, and destroyed. As a reminder of this, he carried a wound in his shoulder for the remainder of his life because he thought, for just one minute, he could co-opt the ring for the purposes of saving his own hide.

Woods can have complete, and total forgiveness, but he will carry the wound of what he has done to himself, and others, for the rest of his life.

So, Now What???

Yah, O.K., so now what??? What do I do with this? Imagine that, Clemente with a high speed connection, too much time on my hands, and all of cyberspace upon which to write. I possess more than ever some of the greats of letters ever possessed. Augustine could reach only those who read Ecclesiastical Latin, Rousseau only those who could read French, Schpengler only those who could read German. And all of those could reach only those who could read.
My former employer, Moses Znaimer, says reading is an impediment to the spread of Ideas. He applauds the advent of video, and all the technology that comes along with it. He says when you publish on T-V, then reading is not a barrier. "Everyone gets it," says Moses. That's O.K., as far as it goes, but I think ol' 'Mose' didn't think it all the way through. (And that is probably heresy!!!)
T.V. can leave formidable first impressions, but cannot make the connections, and analyse details, as written text can. The result is, we come away from idea exchanging sessions with what we think is the message, but with little understanding of either the matter in question, or its depth, or its interconnectedness with other ideas, or the real world.
The downside of 'blogging by Clemente' is, I have taken a first swipe at posting a blog, and I have only produced a pile of babbel that no one will read, or understand!!! If you have visited my little piece of cyberspace, please come back. I promise not to do this again. The next time I will offer you something readable. Come back!!
